Movie Review: The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle

IMDB, The Immaculate Conception of Little DizzleComedy, 98 Minutes, 2009: The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle on IMDB

At the risk of starting out with a spoiler: this is a movie about little, blue butt-fish.  It may, indeed, be about more than that but what will stick with you and what you’ll talk about with people that haven’t seen it is little, blue butt-fish.  This may be considered, in fact, the official anthem movie for little, blue butt-fish.

Dory is a man that doesn’t know what he wants.  He wanders through life allowing his disillusionment to burst out at inappropriate times and cost him the progress he’s made.  In an attempt to find happiness he tries on various religions like others try on clothes.  After a particularly bad spell he loses his high-paying, health-insurance-granting job and is forced to take a position as a night janitor with a group of oddballs.

The movie has a lot to say but tends to wander aimlessly.  We get threads about the search for happiness and meaning; the state of health coverage for the poor; the fulfillment of childbirth; the folly of the art world; the excesses and abuses of corporate America and a few more than I must be missing.  Oh and, of course, little, blue butt-fish.

The movie is well acted, well shot and has load of interesting ideas.  Unfortunately with all the noise very little of it is able to penetrate.  With a little more focus this could have been something meaningful.  As is, it’s just a pleasantly weird distraction.  With little, blue butt-fish.
