Movie Review: Dark Skies

IMDB, Dark SkiesSci-fi/Horror, 97 Minutes, 2013: Dark Skies on IMDB

[This is the fourth selection in my irregular, “My Wife and Kids are Visiting Relatives and I’m Home Watching Movies” film festival.]

This movie is all about how aliens are visiting earth and spending all their time torturing families for no apparent reason.  They can travel interstellar distances, stop time and apparently teleport at will.  But they spend all their time bugging these folks.

The movie is well-acted, scary enough and generally well-done.  My problem with this boils down to the simple fact that a significant percentage of its viewers seem to think that it’s a documentary.

Reviewing any message board for this reveals a horrifying number of deluded, fantasy-prone individuals that are touting this movie as “the real thing”.  They’re even nitpicking what the movie got “right” and “wrong”.

(Saying that there are a lot of stars is, absolutely, a logical argument that life exists in the universe.  It is absolutely NOT an argument that aliens are secretly visiting Earth and probing folks.  Implants, alien abductions crop circles, repressed memories, Roswell, greys, reptilians, insectoids, Xenu and the Easter Bunny: all, to save space, bullshit.)

Again, the movie really isn’t that bad.  Unfortunately knowing as much as I do about the terribly depressing state of the modern abductee movement and the many sleaze-balls that prey on them just drains all the potential enjoyment out of it.
